History of Swim
Beginning 52 years ago in Europe, SWIM has expanded worldwide, bringing together experts who focus on the theory, monitoring, modeling, and management of saltwater intrusion. Despite an ever-expanding technical field—which now includes advanced geophysics, isotopic chemistry, airborne monitoring, biologic effects, complex modeling, and innovative management—SWIM retains its original family atmosphere, resolutely keeping single technical sessions, shared meals, an evening poster session, field trips, a conference dinner, and an obligatory football game. Attendees routinely come from more than 50 countries; and most know each other by our first names.
